Soaking up ideas: How "sponge cities" can absorb water, prevent flooding

As Canada grapples with the consequences of climate change, including the disastrous floods in British Columbia, cities are looking for ways to be more resilient to extreme weather.

Our concrete-laden cities have long been developed on the premise that we can control flooding with storm drains. But when it rains too much, those drains get overwhelmed.

Now engineers have discovered green space can act like a sponge, soaking up and releasing water slowly.

Global's Mike Drolet looks at one idea that harnesses nature's power to absorb water.
