Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U.S. President Joe Biden and Britain's Prince William and wife Kate Middleton were among the global dignitaries to wish Ireland a happy St. Patrick's Day on Wednesday.

The 46th president and William, the Duke of Cambridge, appeared in a compilation video released by Ireland's foreign ministry.

William appeared alongside his wife, Kate, just over a year after they made an official visit to Ireland.

The prime ministers of New Zealand, Australia and Norway also sent their best wishes.

St Patrick's Day celebrations are due to be markedly muted this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, although dozens of landmarks around the world will still light up green to mark the occasion, which celebrates Irish culture and the island's diaspora around the world.
