Stream@UNGA: Can music fight climate change? | The Stream

Al Jazeera, 23 Sep 2020
People have the power - that’s the message from singer-songwriter Patti Smith. She has joined Jesse Paris Smith and Rebecca Foon, co-founders of climate change solutions NGO Pathway To Paris, to help ensure the UN-backed Paris Agreement becomes reality.

Pathway To Paris is committed to helping the world move away from the fossil fuels era and towards a sustainable future free of carbon emissions - the central aim of the Paris Agreement reached by global consensus at a December 2015 UN meeting in the French capital.

For six years, Pathway To Paris has called for climate action through a series of high-profile festival events featuring activists, thinkers and artists including Patti Smith, whose influence in popular music, poetry and art remains undimmed since her landmark debut album “Horses” captured the world’s attention in 1975.

In the last of our special series of shows in collaboration with the UN General Assembly, The Stream will be joined by Patti, Rebecca and Jesse to talk about their 1000 Cities initiative and how art and culture is amplifying the call to climate action and justice.
