Taiwan’s government on April 6, 2021, released dramatic footage of a deadly train crash which killed 50 people. A packed train carrying almost 500 passengers and crew slammed into a truck near the eastern city of Hualien on April 2, causing it to derail and the front and middle parts to crumple. The government said the truck slid down a sloping road from a nearby building site onto the tracks outside a tunnel just about one minute before the deadly accident happened. Officials suspect the truck’s brakes were not properly applied. Rescuers had retrieved the last body of a passenger from the wreckage. It was the island's worst rail accident in seven decades.
