Thailand is launching major groundwater extraction operations as the country faces severe droughts amid its hot season. The country’s Department of Groundwater Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has dispatched geologists and more than 80 teams equipped with deep ground-drilling machinery to dry regions hit by water shortages. Despite concerns over the adverse effects of tapping new sources of water underground, authorities are studying whether to develop more groundwater resources in the future.
