It’s been 60 years since the first man went to space and Yuri Gagarin’s legacy lives on

Join us along with Andrew L. Jenks (professor of History at California State University), Natalia Tsvetkova (professor and head of the American Studies Department in St. Petersburg State University), and a special appearance from the man of the hour: Yuri Gagarin (through rare archive footage, photos, and audio recordings) for ‘The Iconic Gagarin’ live stream.

Moderator Ivor Crotty will steer the conversation from Gagarin’s perception in the West to his journey from a simple soviet man to a legend.

Other topics that will be discussed:

What was Gagarin's image in the West?
Was he an instrument of soft power?
How is he connected to the US Moon program?
Why is there a phenomenon of Gagarin's smile and no phenomenon of Neil Armstrong's smile?
And finally, what do Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe have in common with Yuri Gagarin?
