Japan is on a security pact signing spree in the new year. Last week, it inked two agreements with the U.S. at the U.S.-Japan Security Consultative Committee, or 2+2 meeting, and one more with Australia, all within 48 hours. Could this be interpreted as arms race? What is driving Japan to form closer security ties with the U.S. and Australia? And what could be the impact on Japan's relations with China?
