'The system is rigged' says Labour's Angela Rayner on A-Level results chaos
Telegraph, 14 Aug 2020
Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner says the A-level results system "is rigged" after almost 40 per cent of results were downgraded.
The government is facing growing calls to abandon its grading system, largely based on using a statistical model as well as a rank order drawn up by teachers.
A total of 39.1 per cent of grades in England were lowered from teachers' predictions, data from exam regulator Ofqual revealed (the graph below shows the breakdown).
The majority of grades, 35.6 per cent, were lowered by one grade, while 3.3 per cent were pulled down by two and 0.2 per cent were bought down by three.
