The Covid-19 pandemic has killed millions of people worldwide, disrupted international trade patterns and greatly reduced international travel. However there’s another crisis that’s been happening concurrently. The world’s been suffering from a major shortage of semiconductor chips.
Microchips are used in essentially all of our daily appliances including: laptops, tablets, PCs, gaming consoles and many more devices. However the pandemic has bolstered unprecedented demand for silicon chips and with global supply chains disrupted, supply has struggled to keep up. The South China Morning Post has taken a look at how this is impacting consumers and when the shortage might end.
