Thousands attend Black Lives Matter protests across Australia
CA, 04 Jul 2020
Thousands of protesters gathered in the Australian cities of Perth, Brisbane and Darwin on Saturday to support the Black Lives Matter movement and to raise awareness of the mistreatment of Indigenous Australians.
People marched through the streets of Brisbane, gathered in parks in Perth and held a demonstration outside the Northern Territory Supreme Court in Darwin.
Though authorities had called for a halt to the protests due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said they were pleased with the turnout, despite having smaller numbers of people attend compared to the events that took place a month ago.
