Toronto to ramp up COVID-19 vaccinations in 13 "hottest" hot spots | FULL

CA, 22 Apr 2021
Toronto Mayor John Tory provided an update on Wednesday about the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the city moves to speed up and mobilize its vaccination rollout, and increase its efforts to cover hot spots.

Tory introduced the "Team Toronto Sprint Strategy" that will focus on ramping up vaccinations in the 13 "hottest" hot spot postal codes over the next two weeks, bringing vaccine doses to where eligible people, aged 18 and over, live.

948,657 doses have been administered in the city so far.

On Monday, Tory encouraged people to get the AstraZeneca vaccine if made available to them, after Ontario changed the age restrictions to 40 and older, advising it was the shot he got and stressed all vaccines in use are safe.

Tory was joined by chief medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa and fire chief Matthew Pegg, who also heads the city's emergency operations.

Ontario is reporting 4,212 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.
