Tropical Storm Beta crawls inland, flooding streets along Texas coast

CA, 24 Sep 2020
Storm surge and rainfall combined Tuesday to cause more flooding along the Texas coast after Tropical Storm Beta made landfall, threatening areas that have already seen more than their fair share of damaging weather during a busy hurricane season.

The storm made landfall late Monday just north of Port O’Connor, Texas. Early Tuesday, Beta was 56 kilometres north northwest of the city, with maximum winds of 64 kph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. The storm is expected to stall inland over Texas.

Video from League City and from Houston shows the impacts of severe flooding on city streets.

League City authorities released a video on Sept. 22, showing floating ant piles in floodwater at Countryside Park as the city dealt with flooding brought by Tropical Storm Beta.

Also, Houston’s Buffalo Bayou was also severely flooded due to the storm.
