Trudeau comments on Morneau resignation, prorogues parliament until Sept. 23
CA, 19 Aug 2020
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday addressed Bill Morneau resigning as finance minister the day prior, saying he worked “tirelessly” over the past five years and would continue to make “important contributions” to the country in years to come.
He then announced he had asked Gov. Gen. Julie Payette to prorogue parliament and that they would return Sept. 23 for the Speech from the Throne.
He said that they would use the speech to present a “roadmap” out of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the past few months have been “unprecedented” but it gives an opportunity for change. He added it would give parliament a chance at a confidence vote on the plan.
