Trudeau discusses back to school season amid COVID-19 pandemic, future “green agenda”
CA, 03 Sep 2020
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with Global B.C.’s Sophie Lui on Wednesday as many families prepare for back to school season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The prime minister said he is sending his own children back to class, but that “we’re going to keep watching closely to make sure that our kids are safe."
When discussing the closure of the Canada-U.S. border, Trudeau said “I think all Canadians understand that we have to put the health and safety of Canadians first.”
“Keeping Canadians safe from the challenges they’re facing with COVID south of the border means being strong on our border restrictions,” he added.
Trudeau also said his government will unveil an “ambitious green agenda” in the upcoming throne speech scheduled to be delivered later this month. He stated that green recovery is about “long-term recovery” for Canada’s economy, and that the country needs to be “leading the way” on the endeavour.
“There are so many things that we can look at as an opportunity through this tragedy of COVID to do bigger things,” he said.
