Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to deliver an update Friday on the country's COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout.

Federal officials will hold a briefing on the pandemic situation following the prime minister's media availability.

The briefing comes as the government says its contribution to the COVAX vaccine program has “always been intended” to secure additional coronavirus vaccine access for Canada, on top of supporting vaccination rollouts in lower-income countries.

As of Feb. 4, Canada has a reported total of 792,440 COVID-19 cases and 20,487 total deaths due to the virus.
