Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provided an update Friday on Canada's COVID-19 situation and vaccine rollout.

On Tuesday, Trudeau defended his government's new COVID-19 border rules when asked why fully-vaccinated American tourists would be unable to enter Canada, as Canadians who have received both doses can.

He said while the vaccine protects those who are vaccinated, there is still the risk they could pass it to other people and the government wants to avoid the possibility of transmission in partially-vaccinated or communities with low vaccination rates.

As of June 24 at 12 p.m. ET, Canada has a reported total of 1,411,634 COVID-19 cases, with 1,376,098 recoveries. The death toll is at 26,191.
