Trump ally Steve Bannon to be held in criminal contempt: US House

CA, 22 Oct 2021
Steve Bannon, the former top aide for former U.S. President Donald Trump, has been found in criminal contempt of Congress.

Lawmakers voted to prosecute Bannon after he defied a subpoena by a committee investigating the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.

In a rare show of bipartisanship on the House floor, the committee’s Democratic chairman, Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, led the floor debate along with Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, one of two Republicans on the panel. Still, the vote was 229-202 with all but nine GOP lawmakers who voted saying “no.”

Global’s Jackson Proskow explains why, what the ruling means and what happens next.
