U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday his administration will be contributing US$13 billion for what he called the “largest” in emergency relief award, to Puerto Rico to help rebuilt its electrical and educational systems.

Trump said the funding would help in rebuilding its infrastructure and claimed they would be bringing the pharmaceutical industry back to the territory.

When asked why the funding did not happen a year ago or more, the president added that it was difficult to get funding passed due to Democrats.

Trump also criticized the Democrats, saying Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his party “devastated” the U.S. territory. He said the economy under previous leaders saw Puerto Rico’s economy “crater” and his administration was “bringing Puerto Rico back.”
