Trump ends Hong Kong's preferential status as US-China tensions rise

China says it will retaliate after the US announced sanctions on banks doing business with Chinese officials who implement the new security law in Hong Kong. US President Donald Trump also ordered the end of the territory’s special status under the US law, the White House justifying the move by “China’s oppressive actions” against the former British colony.
