Trump opposed to renaming U.S. military bases named after Confederate generals: White House | FULL

CA, 11 Jun 2020
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany held a briefing on Wednesday following multiple days of nationwide protests after the death of George Floyd, an Black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. on Memorial Day.

According to McEnany, U.S. President Donald Trump is staunchly opposed to renaming U.S. military bases named after Confederate military leaders, she said.

Some people have called for the removal of Confederate leaders' names from the bases due to the Confederate States of America's history of slavery and racism. In a statement read before the White House Press Corps, Trump indicated that he believes the changes would be disrespectful to the military, in his view.

In additon, regarding a tweet that Trump made about a 75-year-old protester's altercation with police, McEnany said that Trump "does not regret standing up for law enforcement." A reporter asked McEnany if the president "regrets tweeting out a baseless conspiracy theory" to which the press secretary responded that Trump was merely "asking questions" about the interaction.
