Trump says federal agents won’t leave Portland until city is rid of "anarchists and agitators"
CA, 29 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that federal agents who have been deployed amid the anti-racism protests in Portland, Oregon will remain for now.
"We're not leaving until they secure their city. We told the governor, we told the mayor: Secure your city," Trump said, repeating his threat to send more federal officers if the situation gets worse.
The president also stated that Portland is to get rid of what he called "anarchists and agitators," or "we're going to have to do it for them."
The federal government has deployed teams of agents, at times heavily armed and clad in camouflage, to the Portland protests, drawing criticism from Democrats and civil liberties groups who allege excessive force and federal overreach by Trump.
