CA, 15 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he signed legislation and an executive order to hold China "accountable" for the national security law it imposed on Hong Kong.
During a news conference at the Rose Garden, Trump told reporters he is ending Hong Kong's preferential treatment as a punishment against China for what he called its "oppressive" actions against the people of Hong Kong.
He also said he holds China fully responsible for “concealing” the coronavirus and “unleashing it upon the world,” adding the country “could’ve” and “should’ve” stopped the virus.
Trump also announced the executive order on immigration his administration was planning would be "merit-based.”
"We're going to take care of DACA because I'm going to be doing, in the not too distant future, pretty soon, I'm going to be signing a new immigration action,” Trump said, using the acronym for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
