U.S. official says Canada's COVID-19 restrictions to blame for Trudeau not attending USMCA summit

CA, 09 Jul 2020
U.S. National Economic Council director Larry Kudlow spoke about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau missing the USMCA summit with President Donald Trump and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday, saying Canada's strict COVID-19 restrictions were to blame.
Kudlow said that given aspects like face masks and "so forth," Trudeau made the decision not to travel to the U.S.

Later, during the summit, President Trump thanked Canada for their involvement in the trade agreement and said he had spoken with and would be speaking with Trudeau again "in a little while."
