UK government branded “inhumane” over plan to house migrants in disused ferries

BBC, 02 Oct 2020
Almost 2,000 migrants reached the UK by boat in September alone, according to new figures. That’s more than in the whole of 2019.

Now ministers are understood to be considering plans to house asylum seekers on disused ferries moored off the British coast, while their claims are assessed.

It follows claims the Home Office has been considering processing migrants and asylum seekers at centres in other countries.

Labour has described the government’s immigration policies as “inhumane”.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by home editor Mark Easton.
