UNGA 2020: Pope Francis says the coronavirus pandemic has exposed human frailty

CA, 26 Sep 2020
Pope Francis made an appeal for change when addressing the U.N. General Assembly via a pre-recorded speech on Friday and said the global crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic meant it was "a time to separate what is necessary from what is not."

Speaking from the Vatican in a video address to the U.N. General Assembly, Francis also said the worldwide pandemic had highlighted human frailty and the urgent need to promote public health and ensure access to vaccines.

The poor and weakest members of society should get preferential treatment when a vaccine for the coronavirus is ready, Pope Francis said.

"We never emerge from a crisis just as we were, we come out either better or worse," the pontiff told the 193-member world body.
