US Presidential debate: Trump, Biden spar in 1st face-off | HIGHLIGHTS

CA, 30 Sep 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden faced off on Tuesday in the first of the U.S. presidential candidate debates, as they tried to make their case for the nation's highest office.

The night was rife with the two candidates sparring over multiple topics including the handling of the coronavirus, the Supreme Court nominating process, and at one point due to multiple interruptions, Biden even told the president to "shut up!" as he spoke about health care.

During the debate, Biden said that he was not there to fact check President Donald Trump, saying "everybody knows he's a liar," before talking about health care. His said Trump wants to take health care away, prompting Trump to talk over Biden multiple times arguing that Obamacare was "no good" and Republicans made it better.

Trump also questioned Biden about a Senate report into Hunter Biden and Burisma, claiming the mayor of Moscow, Russia gave money to Hunter, which Biden denied.

When pushed by debate moderator Chris Wallace to condemn white supremacist groups and right-wing militias, Trump said he was willing to do so but that "almost everything I see is from the left-wing." Trump went on to ask Biden and Wallace to name someone to condemn, prompting Wallace to bring up both white supremacist hate groups and the right-wing "Proud Boys" but Trump instead went on to call Antifa a dangerous organization.

Trump also would not say whether he would not declare victory until the election results were certified, instead calling on his supporters to watch the polls for potential fraud. Biden meanwhile said he would hold off on declaring victory, but added he would support the outcome if he does not win.
