Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said US economic sanctions against her will be an “inconvenience” to her personally, but nothing she will take to heart. Lam spoke at a press conference on August 18, 2020, regarding measures Washington imposed on her along with 10 top officials from Hong Kong as well as the Chinese mainland. The sanctions, announced on August 7, freeze their US assets and prohibit Americans from doing business with them, in response to their roles in “undermining the city’s freedoms”.
