Video shows driver hit Louisville protester

Global Report, 18 Jun 2020
Louisville Metro police said they are looking for the driver of a car that hit a protester in downtown Louisville Monday morning.

Multiple videos show a driver hitting a protester with their car and driving off after several people attempted to stop it from continuing on Liberty Street.

LMPD released footage captured on Real Crime Center cameras that shows several protesters run towards a car. The car takes off, hitting one person and continuing down Liberty

Cameras then captured the aftermath of the crash, showing people run after the car. In a later recording, a different protester runs to the car and appears to point a gun at the driver. The car takes off.

LMPD said they asking for any information on the driver of the car to "investigate this incident further."

A second video provided to WHAS11 shows the moments before the protester is hit. Protesters can be seen telling a different car to turn around as people block the intersection.

When the second car arrives, protesters once again tell it to turn around. The car does not move as three people talk to the driver. It is unclear what was said before an altercation between the driver and protesters.

The driver puts the car in reverse and seems to take a megaphone out of one person's hand. More people begin running towards the car, which then takes off and hits a protester.

The person hit can be seen getting up, though it is unclear what injuries they may have from the incident.

The crash happened as protesters blocked streets around Jefferson Square for the second time this week. LMPD arrested 17 people during the protests Monday morning, saying charges included inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, obstructing a highway, harassment and assault.

LMPD also said they confiscated one gun and towed five cars.
