WATCH: D.C. officer Hodges says he was ‘fighting for democracy’ when responding to Jan. 6 attack

PBS, 28 Jul 2021
Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police officer Daniel Hodges testified on July 27 that he and his colleagues were “fighting for democracy” when they responded to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. In a hearing held by the House select committee investigating the attack, he told Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., that if any of the lawmakers were kidnapped or killed by the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol six months ago, it might have affected their work, as well as legislation, for years to come. “I can speak for everyone when I say we worry about each other more than ourselves,” Hodges said of his fellow officers, adding that their actions weren’t only done in the name of democracy, but also the “future of the country.”
