Political Strategist Tad Devine said on Aug. 20 that the progressive shift of the Democratic Party can be seen in the candidacy of Joe Biden, who has sat down with a number of progressive leaders over the course of his 2020 presidential campaign in an effort to find a common ground on certain policy issues. Devine said that Biden’s previous success with young voters in Indiana and North Carolina during his 2008 campaign “speaks to the necessity not just to mobilize young people, but to mobilize these ascendent groups” in the Democratic coalition, including women and minorities. Devine spoke with PBS NewsHour political reporter Daniel Bush ahead of the final night of the Democratic National Convention, which is being held virtually this year.
