WATCH: How the Supreme Court could move 'dramatically' to the right in the coming years
PBS, 30 Sep 2020
Should President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett be confirmed to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Slate Senior Editor Dahlia Lithwick said she expected the high court to move “dramatically to the right” on issues ranging from gun control, to health care, to reproductive rights. She also said the ongoing effort to chip away at regulatory agencies would be “bolstered” should Barrett join the Supreme Court. “Going forward...a court that is remarkably out of step with public opinion polling,” on issues such as health care and reproductive rights, Lithwick said, could ultimately harm “the esteem that the public has for the courts.” Lithwick spoke with PBS NewsHour political reporter Daniel Bush on Sept. 29 ahead of the first 2020 presidential debate.
