Former President Barack Obama said his successor, President Donald Trump, has not taken the position seriously since he took office, and the country has suffered as a result. “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t,” Obama said on the third night of the Democratic National Convention. “And the consequences of that failure are severe.” He said that lives have been lost to COVID-19, the economic crisis has worsened and democratic institutions have been threatened under Trump’s leadership. The coronavirus pandemic upended both parties’ traditional conventions. Instead of in-person events, the DNC program each night features a number of speakers and musical performances virtually across the country.
