WATCH: Postmaster General Dejoy confirms that USPS is considering ‘dramatic changes’ in service
PBS, 21 Aug 2020
Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., accused President Donald Trump of trying to degrade the postal service and eliminate vote-by-mail during a hearing with Postmaster General Louis Dejoy before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Aug. 21. Carper asked about potential changes to the U.S. Postal Service that could potentially slow down mail delivery after the election, including service reductions to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, as well as price hikes. “We’re considering dramatic changes” to the USPS, Dejoy confirmed, adding that he believed they would improve service for the American people. DeJoy testified to the Senate panel after changes to postal operations -- like the removal of mailboxes and limiting of overtime hours -- that have caused mail delays and drawn suggestions that the moves amount to political interference ahead of the November election.
