Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., addressed Democrats on Aug. 17 during the first night of the Democratic National Convention. “This election is the most important in the modern history of this country,” said the former presidential candidate, adding that this current moment demands a movement of people who are prepared to stand up for democracy and decency. “We need Joe BIden as our next president,” Sanders added. The coronavirus pandemic upended both parties’ traditional conventions. Instead, the program each night features a number of speakers and musical performances virtually across the country.
