WATCH: ‘We can’t let things settle down,’ Eric Garner’s mother tells Joe Biden at the 2020 DNC

PBS, 18 Aug 2020
Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden spoke with a panel of elected officials, community leaders and activists about police use of force and racial injustice in the country as part of the first night of programming at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The panel, held virtually due to COVID-19 precautions, included Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after a New York City police officer put him in a chokehold. “I know when my son was murdered, there was a big uprising, but then it settled down,” Carr told Biden. “We can’t let things settle down. We have to go to the politicians and we have to hold their feet to the fire, because otherwise the big uprising is not going to mean a lot.”
