WATCH: You can't eliminate inequity without a policy like reparations, Ibram X. Kendi said

PBS, 11 Jul 2020
With protests and renewed conversations about race and racism in America, Ibram X. Kendi, author of "How to Be an Antiracist," spoke with the PBS NewsHour about what steps ought to be taken to create equity for Black Americans. Kendi said that involves accounting for the country's past and present racist policies that have harmed Black people, and also creating policies that keep that history of deprivation in mind. Reparations, compensation from the U.S. for the descendants of slaves in the country, would be one of those policies, Kendi said.
Kendi pointed to the growing racial wealth gap -- a result of past and present racist policies -- that has been worsening during the pandemic. "How do you eliminate the growing racial wealth gap without a policy like reparations? It's impossible," Kendi said.
