WE scandal: Poilievre urges Trudeau to give "exhaustive" testimony before finance committee
CA, 30 Jul 2020
Conservative finance critic Pierre Poilievre expressed disappointment Wednesday with the amount of time Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had committed to in agreeing to come before the finance committee on Thursday to testify on the WE charity scandal.
Poilievre said an hours-long appearance before the committee and 11 minutes allotted for questioning by Conservative members would not be enough, and that Trudeau should be prepared to give "exhaustive answers’ on the topic."
He also urged the prime minister to “tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” and suggested that if not satisfied with his answers, the House of Commons would vote to “recall him for another round of testimony.”
The committee is seeking to determine whether the federal government was engaged in a conflict of interest when it awarded WE Charity a contract to administer a $900-million grant program to student volunteers as part of the government's plan to offset the economic impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
