U.S. President Donald Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows defended the president's claim this past weekend that 99 per cent of COVID-19 cases were "totally harmless," saying he doesn't believe Trump's intent was to downplay the threat of the coronavirus and that he wants to look at risk in an "appropriate way based on facts and figures."
Meadows said that looking at the vast majority of people under 65 years old who don't have "comorbidity" factors - such as diabetes or hypertension - saying it's "not as dangerous as a number of other things" that could cause a loss of life.
The chief of staff also remarked on the recent reports about alleged bounties offered by Russian intelligence to the Taliban for the killing of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, something Trump has called a "hoax," saying that the "unbelievable intel" was not substantiated and criticized Democrats for not reading their intelligence briefings more. Meadows also spoke directly to the cameras telling troops that no matter who is coming after them, "we have your back."
