Work to address climate change must be as "immense" as the disasters faced, UN says

CA, 03 Oct 2022
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Monday that the work countries will have to put in ahead of COP27, the climate change summit taking place in Egypt in a few weeks, is as "immense" as the climate-related impacts that have been seen around the world over the past year.

Citing hurricane Ian's impact on the U.S. and Cuba, one of the hottest summers recorded in Europe and flooding in Pakistan, Guterres said while "climate chaos gallops ahead, climate action has stalled."

Guterres said it was time for a "game-changing, quantum-level compromise" between developed and emerging economies to respond to climate change, adding that even as temperatures rise, the war in Ukraine was putting climate action "on the back-burner."
